Neuromodulators Q & A

What Is A Neuromodulator?

A neuromodulator is a popular form of injectable that works by interfering with communications between motor nerves — the nerves that cause muscle movements — and your muscles themselves.  Using this type of injectable, you can accomplish numerous aesthetic and non-aesthetic treatment goals.

The active ingredient in Botox® and other neuromodulators is botulinum toxin.  Botulinum toxin is a chemical released by a type of bacteria called Clostridium botulinum and is the same component that causes botulism.  When used in small doses, botulinum toxin is safe and doesn’t cause lasting damage or troublesome symptoms.

The team at MIWLS & Gulf Coast Aesthetics performs Botox injections extremely carefully.  After your injections, you can go about your day as usual.  You’ll notice results within a few days after your in-office procedure.

What Can A Neuromodulator Do?

A neuromodulator like Botox can help you accomplish numerous goals, and they’re very effective for treating conditions or symptoms related to uncontrolled or unconscious muscle movements.

A few strategically placed Botox injections from MIWLS & Gulf Coast Aesthetics can treat:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines
  • Blepharospasm (uncontrolled blinking)
  • Hyperhidrosis (severe sweating)
  • Chronic migraines
  • And more!

Most often, people use neuromodulators to temporarily smooth fine lines and certain facial wrinkles.  A type of fine line called a dynamic wrinkle appears over time the more you move the muscles in your face.  Neuromodulators inhibit the tiny facial muscles causing these lines from flexing, allowing you to enjoy wrinkle-free skin.

How Long Are Neuromodulators Effective?

Neuromodulators stay active within your muscles for some time before they eventually wear off as you body absorbs the medication.

Depending on what you choose to treat with neuromodulators like Botox®, the effects can last 3-12 months.  For dynamic wrinkles, the effects tend to last for about 4 months.
