What Should I Expect During A Colonoscopy?
When you arrive for your procedure, you will be placed under sedation. A thin, flexible colonoscope will be inserted into the rectum and advanced into the colon. The video camera attached to the scope will allow for visualization of the colon where any polyps or abnormalities can be detected. If necessary, polyps or biopsies may be taken during the procedure for further testing and diagnosis. Depending on the exam's findings, the procedure may take anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour to complete.
