Tissue found in our body can sometimes form growths or tumors. When these masses grow, they may necessitate excision or removal. These growths can be benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Since these tumors can vary greatly, their need for removal will be determined after a consultation with a skilled surgeon. Dr. Donald Balder has the knowledge and expertise to identify the types of growths and determine if removal is necessary. Contact Mississippi Institute of Weight Loss & Gulf Coast Aesthetics in Gulfport, MS today to request an appointment to determine if a mass excision is right for you.
Depending on the type of surgery required to remove the mass, you may need general, local, or regional anesthesia. Dr. Balder will make an incision, and depending on the size and location of the mass, he will attempt to remove the entire tumor, as well as 1 – 2 centimeters around the tumor called the margins. The margins are then examined to determine if the cells are cancerous. Further treatments or surgeries may be required if the tumor shows positive margins.
